NK Relay

battle for the Dutch national title

The National Relay Championship for municipalities is one of the newest and most dynamic events within RUN Winschoten. Since 2024, municipalities from across the Netherlands have been competing for the national title in the 10x10 km relay.

In 2026, the second edition will take place, and it will once again become clear which municipality has the strongest, fastest, and most united team.

The race is part of the regular 10x10 km relay and starts on Saturday morning at 09:30. From that moment on, it is all about cooperation, strategy, and a team's ability to get each other to the finish line.

The power of a team: 10 laps, 10 chances

The 10x10 km relay requires rhythm, smart changeovers, and teamwork. Each lap is 10 kilometres, after which a changeover is mandatory in the official changeover zone. Teams consist of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 runners. A runner may run multiple laps, but there must always be a changeover.

This makes the relay suitable for both dedicated runners and teams who mainly want to show what their municipality is worth.

An officially measured course

The course is a flat, fast, and traffic-free 10 km circuit through Winschoten and Heiligerlee. It is officially measured with the Jones Counter and meets the requirements for Dutch, European, and world records. Please note:

  • the course is not suitable for wheelers,
  • accompanying cyclists are not allowed.

Changeovers, bib numbers, and dropouts

The relay has a fixed order:

the first runner wears a number ending in 1,
the second in 2,

the last in 10.

Does a runner drop out due to an injury? Report this immediately to the officials in the changeover zone. One hour after the report, the next runner may start. This way, the team can still finish the race.

Timing with MyLaps

Teams receive two MyLaps rental chips that must be used for timing. The chips are passed on according to the prescribed schedule (1 to 3, 2 to 4, and so on). Failure to return the chips will result in an invoice of €25 per chip.

Aid stations along the course

There are two aid stations and two water stations along the course. Your own refreshments may be handed over at the aid stations. Your own supporters are not allowed to walk or cycle on the course. This rule applies to all relay teams.

Registering for the NK Relay for municipalities

Teams register via MyLaps and pay with iDEAL, Sofort, or credit card. After registering, you will immediately receive a confirmation and a personal password to edit team details. Cancellation is possible until 10 August 2025 (€10 administration fee). After that, no refund will be given.
