100 KM
the ultrarun that made RUN Winschoten great

The 100 km solo is the heart of RUN Winschoten. Since 1976, this ultrarun has been at the core of the event and has built a strong reputation both nationally and internationally.
Since 1995, the solo race has also been part of the official Dutch 100 km Championship. In 2026, this distance takes on an extra special meaning: RUN celebrates its 50th anniversary and is making this jubilee edition bigger than ever.

In the past, RUN has hosted several international championships, including European and world titles. The course was officially measured, so recorded times counted directly for the world rankings. That combination of accuracy, atmosphere and organizational quality made Winschoten a stage where international top athletes were eager to compete for many years. Few places in Europe have written as much ultrarunning history as Winschoten. You can still feel that international character when you take your place at the start of the 100 km solo.

Winschoten veranderd in een groot feest!
Any runner aged 21 or older can register for the open race. You will automatically be placed in the correct age category based on your age on the day of the start. The 100 km is a distance that requires preparation, but that is exactly why it motivates: you build towards one clear goal. Along the route, tens of thousands of spectators will keep cheering you on, often late into the evening.
Streets are decorated exuberantly, with an extra incentive: the street prize for the best-decorated street. Every year, residents pull out all the stops to win that title. On top of that, RUN offers something unique: participants in the 50 and 100 km can stay overnight and eat for free with host families. International runners in particular like to make use of this, often year after year at the same address. This ensures that RUN is not only about kilometers and times, but about an experience in which you, as a runner, truly become part of the event.
In 2026, the official Dutch 100 km Championship will also be held during RUN. You can take part if you:
The championship will take place with a minimum of 5 registered participants (m/f), of whom at least 3 must start. Championship participants automatically compete in the open race; age categories do not apply in the championship.
The Royal Dutch Athletics Federation promotes a responsible sports environment. That is why participants in the Dutch 100 km Championship are advised to register with the Dutch Doping Authority and complete the Bronze and Silver e-learning program. The program helps you to arrive well prepared at the start and provides support in situations where doping control is applied. A separate module is also available for coaches and support staff.
RUN is powered by a team of volunteers, sponsors and suppliers who have supported the event for decades. For the jubilee year 2026, the bar will be set even higher. With fifty years of knowledge and tradition, the approach remains clear: safety comes first, the course must remain easy to follow, and every runner must have the space to complete those 100 km in their own way.
The 100 km solo will get an extra shine in 2026. It is the distance that defines the DNA of RUN, and in the fiftieth year it is once again at the center. For runners who have been thinking about an ultrarun for a while, this is the moment. You do not just run a jubilee edition; this is a chance to become part of half a century of ultrarunning history.
